eco:P is EkoBalans technology for extracting phosphorus in the form of struvite, MgNH₄PO₄*6H₂O, for example from dewatering reject water at wastewater treatment plants with biological phosphorus removal.

The process is fully automated, efficient, simple, and robust. Phosphate is precipitated by adding magnesium salt in a batch process with a very short residence time. Microcrystals of pure struvite are separated using EkoBalans’ proprietary technology.

The extracted phosphorus is very pure, with cadmium levels below the detection limit. Struvite can be a sustainable alternative to commercial phosphorus fertilizers.
